Charlene Schiffer
IPNIG Member at Large

Hello my name is Charlene Schiffer and I am rerunning for the position of Member-at-Large for the IPNIG. I work as a staff nurse on the Extensive Services unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Thunder Bay. I also have a private practice utilizing complementary therapies.

I worked for 20 years in a geriatric facility as an RPN and returned to school to obtain my RN Diploma at Confederation College in Thunder Bay and then returned again to obtain my BScN at Lakehead University Next on the journey is to obtain MScN in Integrative Health.

I have volunteered in many areas of RNAO; an ENO for two years, a scrutineer for 4 years and now Chapter President for Lakehead Chapter. I also volunteer with The Thunder Bay and District Critical Incident Management Team, the Northwestern Ontario Air Search and Rescue and the Amateur Radio Club.

My involvement with community includes sitting on the Advisory Board for LTC and CCC with CNO and Bargaining Unit President with ONA at St. Joseph Hospital.

I have been published in the Metro News and the RN Journal for the use of music in my Private Practice.

Many nurses are now working in private practice and I believe that one of the goals of this group that I would like to see accomplished is the acceptance of nurses in independent practice. With hard work we will be able to convince insurance companies to accept billing of our services which will benefit all that use our services.
